Recently I had the wonderful opportunity to spend a week cruising the Caribbean on Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas. A beautiful ship, with a beautiful promenade filled with shops, restaurants, bars and character meet and greets.

When you embark upon the ship, you are in what on the Oasis of the Seas is the lobby area. This is the promenade. There is a beautiful tile floor with a huge winding staircase at either end, as well as a glass ceiling which lets in the light from the Central Park area which is on the deck above.

As you walk along the Promenade, you will see dining and shopping everywhere! You can grab a snack at Sorrento’s Pizzeria, a coffee at Mondo Coffee Bar or Starbucks, or a drink at one of the many bars and pubs. The first ‘moving bar at sea’, The Rising Tide, is a very cool place to sit and have a drink and watch the Promenade disappear beneath you, as the entire bar slowly rises to the next deck to let you out in Central Park (or of course you can stay for the ride back down!). The Globe and Atlas is an English Pub, The Schooner Bar is a comfortable lounge type bar with couches and big soft chairs, and is host to a piano player each night as well. Early shows are “PG” and after 11 pm, it’s adults only.

If you love to dance, Boleros is a Latin dance club with great music every night, and if you prefer something a little more relaxing, the Champagne bar is quiet and comfortable with champagne of course, but also a full bar for the non-champagne drinker!

Just above the Globe and Atlas pub is a walkway that protrudes a bit to ‘hang’ above the Promenade. This is used for entertainment, such as the 70’s Dance Party night when some of the entertainment crew dances along the bridge in their best 70’s attire! The Promenade is where the action happens day and night!

This is also where you will find most of the shops on-board the ship (there are a few in other places, such as Tiffany’s in the Central Park area). If you love to shop you can find the Kate Spade and Michael Kors stores as well as Prince and Greene, which has a variety of clothing and accessories for women, Royal Port Merchants where you can find liquor and sundries, Regalia, a very exclusive jewelry store, and Shop, which carries any and all Royal Caribbean Cruise Line merchandise. Focus, the photo shop, and the Royal Caribbean booking office are also located along the Promenade, at the top of the stairs.

The Promenade is also where you can meet Dream Works characters at various times each day. Meet and greet times will be listed in your daily Cruise Compass for location and times to meet Shrek, Fiona, Po, King Julian and other characters from the Madagascar, Shrek and Kung-Fu Panda movies!

So on your  Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas cruise, make sure you take some time and check out all that the Promenade has to offer.
